Just Part A and B
You are closing into Medicare age. 65 years old. Here comes all the mail and solicitations. You decide to forgo all of that and just enroll in Medicare Part A (Hospital) Medicare Part B (Doctors). There is no need to get anything else and you will save money. Good idea? Think again.
By not enrolling in a private Medicare Supplement plan or MediGap plan you are exposing yourself to $25,000 or more of bills. Medicare does not pickup all of your insurance coverage. That is what the private insurance carrier does. Pay for the bills that Medicare does not. To give you an idea of the costs of a Medicare Supplement policy at $130 a month it would take you close to 20 years to equal in premium what one claim that Medicare does not pay for would expose you to.
