Great opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal. Essential health benefits and other mandates are what is drive up medical insurance costs. Why not get creative and offer plans that do not cover everything under the sun? If an individual that is young and healthy wants to make an educated decision and purchase a short term medical plan with less benefits and a high deductible they should have the ability to do so. Why not a skinny plan? With the individual mandate ending in 2019 if that approach is not taken, the younger population due to very high premiums will simply drop their plans and roll the dice.
